This is a poster I designed for an event at Central Connecticut State University. CCSU is hosting a guest lecture event for designers to attend at the school featuring two CCSU alums and one other professional in the industry. The three guests are Ben Callaghan of FATHOM, Keisha Croxton of Kroxie & Co, and Marshal Samba-Green of Slalom. This design is currently displayed for students to see on campus in order to inform them of the event.
The design was created to feel reminiscent of the comic book aesthetic and perhaps of posters or advertisements for various conventions. At these types of events you want to show off who is coming, and more importantly, how much of a big deal they are. For this design I definitely wanted the three guest lecturers to be front and center. They are the primary focus of the event, so they should be the primary focus of the poster. I designed a big tagline to keep the rhythm going, and then the information is at the bottom.
To keep with this comic book style I illustrated over the portraits of each guest. Using a pen tablet and various drawing techniques I was able to completely transform these average portraits into something much more interesting and visually appealing that further pushed my theme and certainly draws more attention to my poster over any other that may be hung next to it. This makes the images really pop and ties it all together very well.
