A Green Initiative.
This was a project I created at Central Connecticut State University with the intention of spreading awareness about the dangersĀ of disposable plastic products to the environment. I was tasked with creating an info graphic based on an environmental issue, and since this is something we deal with daily, it made perfect sense.
In order to accurately and effectively supply the information, I had to do a large amount of research into the topic. I read all about all sorts of effects plastic has on the environment and learned a whole lot of fun facts relating to the size and amount of plastic waste in the world. After doing ample research, I was ready to move forward.
To keep with the usual info graphic style, I made sure not to use a single photograph. Everything here had to be created in Illustrator for the visual style to succeed. I kept with a similar style for each of the graphics to keep a strong visual consistency, and in the end I think this is what helped the info graphic succeed.
Another important factor in designing an effective info graphic is to keep the balance of text and imagery consistent. You need a strong balance, otherwise it will not work. Too many words gets boring to look at, and too many graphics feels unprofessional and often doesn't offer enough information. I achieved this by dividing it into different sections, each with different background colors and their own graphics. This essentially gave me a blank slate for each bit of information, allowing me to exercise total creative freedom on each and every section. Using a consistent color palette allowed me to do this without breaking up the info graphic too much, keeping a strong sense of unity throughout the whole graphic.
