This is a poster I created for the Student Government Association at Central Connecticut State University to encourage people to run for student government positions in 2020. The only graphic supplied to me was the SGA logo. Using shape building tools I created eight individual graphics to represents different students. It felt important to connect with everyone on campus and make them feel included. Anyone could run, and with this poster I hoped to make sure everyone knew that.
I used CCSU's school colors (Blue and White) as the primary color palette. Obviously the characters at the top do not follow this color choice, however it doesn't distract from the rest of the poster. This effect was achieved with the large "SGA FALL ELECTIONS" and "RUN FOR STUDENT GOVERNMENT" banner portions, which are large, bold, and decorated in a way to pull your attention downward. At the bottom area you are then able to read the important information. The footer was placed in a dark background rather than the blue to place further emphasis on it, as the declaration deadline is a very important thing to know. Using these different techniques, I feel I have crafted a poster with a very strong flow and sense of visual hierarchy.
I also adapted the poster into an Instagram post consisting of two slides. To do so I simply broke up the header information and the body information. That way the viewer's eye is caught quickly by the bold "RUN FOR STUDENT GOVERNMENT" banner, leading them to swipe over to learn more information if they are interested. At the bottom of both pages however is the deadline, making sure all students are well aware of the time they have to declare their candidacy.
